The Meteorological Department has forecast a rise in atmospheric pressure from April 26, which is expected to spread across much of the country by April 27.

Southern regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, are expected to see daytime temperatures soar 5 to 7°C above normal between April 26 and May 1.

In the northern and central areas like upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures may climb 4 to 6°C higher than usual from April 27 to April 30.

Rain Forecast for Upper Regions:

From April 30, a new weather system is expected to bring rain, wind, and thunderstorms (with possible hail) to Kashmir, Islamabad, the Pothohar region, parts of northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan. This change is likely to ease the ongoing heatwave conditions beginning May 1.

Precautions and Public Advisory:

  • People, especially children, the elderly, and women, are urged to avoid direct sun exposure and stay hydrated during the heatwave.
  • Farmers should plan harvesting activities carefully and ensure livestock is protected from the heat
  • The temperature rise may also speed up the melting of snow in the northern areas from April 27 to May 1.
  • Everyone is encouraged to conserve water.
  • Possible dust storms, hail, and lightning on April 30 and May 1 could damage exposed structures like trees, poles, vehicles, and solar panels in affected areas.
