Heatwave grips Sindh as temperatures hit 46°C

A punishing heatwave continues to blanket Pakistan, with Sindh bearing the brunt as some areas experience the country’s highest temperatures this week.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), dry and scorching weather is expected to persist in Sindh for the next couple of days. Temperatures may spike to 46°C in cities like Mithi and Badin, and reach 45°C in Jacobabad and Dhalbandin.

Other regions, particularly the plains of Punjab and Balochistan, are also feeling the heat.

While most areas will stay hot and dry through Tuesday, conditions are likely to shift by afternoon. Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Islamabad may see some cloud cover, gusty winds, and chances of thunderstorms.

Parts of Sindh and Balochistan, especially Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Dadu, could be hit by afternoon dust storms and winds. Coastal cities, including Karachi, are bracing for strong gusts alongside the continued heat.

By Wednesday, the hot and dry spell will linger across much of the country. Scattered thunderstorms are expected in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while Sindh might catch some relief with lighter winds in places such as Quetta and Ziarat.

Islamabad is forecast to stay warm during the day, with potential thunder in the evening. Similarly, cities across Punjab, including Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sialkot, will likely deal with intense daytime heat and scattered evening storms.

Officials from the PMD have urged Sindh residents to stay safe in the heat and advised those in areas prone to dust storms to remain indoors to avoid health complications.

Despite the wind in Karachi and coastal zones, the high temperatures are expected to continue.

Temperatures recorded on Monday included:

  • Mithi: 46°C
  • Jacobabad, Dhalbandin, Badin, Chhor: 45°C
