Heatwave continues in Karachi, temperatures rise to 43°C in rural Sindh

Karachi is currently experiencing a heatwave, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning that the sweltering conditions are expected to continue for the next 24 hours.

Temperatures in the city range from 39°C to 41°C, while the lowest recorded was 25°C. Humidity has reached 46%, and dry northwesterly winds are blowing at 4 km/h, adding to the discomfort.

The PMD has stated that this heatwave may last until April 23, advising residents to stay hydrated and take precautions.

In rural Sindh, the heat remains intense, with Jacobabad hitting 43°C and Shaheed Benazirabad close behind at 42°C.

Northern areas like Swat and Mingora saw heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Sunday night, bringing some relief and cooler weather.

The Met Office also expects gusty winds and scattered thundershowers in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan today.

Previously, PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir Zaighum explained that the ongoing heatwave is the result of a western weather system disrupting normal air circulation.

He added that while the sea breeze might return after sunset, a lack of it during the day could intensify the heat further.

The public is urged to avoid going out during the hottest parts of the day, stay well-hydrated, and take extra care of children, the elderly, and women.
