HBL PSL 10 to restart today after tense pause

The HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 10 resumes today with Peshawar Zalmi facing Karachi Kings at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, marking the restart of the tournament after a short break caused by tensions with India.

All teams have reconfirmed the participation of their international players and announced replacements for those sidelined due to injury.

Islamabad United revealed five key overseas players who will feature in the remaining matches: England’s Alex Hales, South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen, Australia’s Ben Dwarshuis, New Zealand’s Jimmy Neesham, and England’s Tymal Mills.

“These high-calibre overseas players bring world-class experience from top T20 leagues, significantly boosting our campaign as we enter the decisive phase of the tournament,” the franchise stated.

“Islamabad United remains committed to delivering top-tier cricket to fans worldwide,” it added.

Lahore Qalandars made squad changes due to injuries. Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa has come in for England’s Tom Curran, while Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan replaces New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell.

Table-toppers Quetta Gladiators have also made impactful additions, confirming the continued presence of New Zealand’s Finn Allen and South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw, along with fresh signings, Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal and Avishka Fernando, and Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib.

The PSL 10 final will take place on May 25 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Before that, a double-header is set for May 18 in Rawalpindi, featuring Multan Sultans vs. Quetta Gladiators in the afternoon, and Peshawar Zalmi vs. Lahore Qalandars in the evening.

The last group match between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings will be played on May 19. Lahore will then host the playoffs: the first Qualifier on May 21, followed by Eliminator 1 and Qualifier 2 on May 22 and 23.

Match timings are set for 7:30 pm local time, except on May 18—the afternoon match starts at 3 pm, while the evening game kicks off at 8 pm.

The league faced a temporary suspension due to increased regional tensions and an incident near Rawalpindi Stadium last week. Initially, there were plans to shift the remaining games to the UAE for safety reasons.

Karachi Kings captain and former Australian star David Warner has confirmed his return to the league.

According to Australian media, Warner is confident in the tournament’s resumption. Fellow Aussie Ben McDermott is also expected to rejoin the squad in Pakistan.
