The federal government has decided to stop collecting the Rs35 monthly PTV fee through electricity bills, ending a practice that generated around Rs1.5 billion each month.
An official notification regarding this change is expected to be issued soon. This fee had previously been used to help cover the salaries of PTV employees.
In a separate development, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a Rs1.50 per unit cut in the base electricity tariff.
With this reduction, the new average electricity rate for distribution companies will be Rs34 per unit.
NEPRA’s recommendation has been sent to the federal government and will be officially notified once a decision is made on subsidy allocations.
