Govt blocked over 2,000 harmful websites & apps in 2024

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has shared detailed cybersecurity data for 2024, released by the National Telecom Security Operations Center (NTSOC).

According to the report, NTSOC successfully removed more than 2,070 phishing websites and harmful mobile apps that were targeting users in Pakistan.

It also identified over 550 instances where Pakistani user credentials were found leaked on the dark web.

Throughout the year, the center dealt with a significant number of cyber threats. It tracked more than 3,200 Indicators of Attack (IoAs) across the telecom sector and issued 3,946 Indicators of Compromise (IoCs) to help detect and stop active cyber risks.

NTSOC carried out over 200 security operations during the year, including thousands of public security alerts shared through the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), and over 50 private alerts issued to key organizations in the private sector.

Close cooperation with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) also helped prevent threats from reaching users by blocking them at the network level.

PTA noted that these efforts were made possible through a strong, two-way system for sharing threat intelligence, allowing government bodies and private organizations to quickly exchange information and respond jointly to cyber threats.
