Govt announces over 1 lac new gas connections for domestic use

In a significant move despite the ongoing natural gas shortage, the government has finalized a plan to issue more than 116,000 new gas connections across Pakistan in the upcoming fiscal year.

Budget documents reveal that 115,530 of these will go to domestic users, while 550 new commercial and 350 industrial connections are also part of the expansion plan.

Out of the total, 85,740 connections are earmarked for Sindh and Balochistan, with the remaining 30,530 allocated to Punjab, Islamabad, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) is set to handle the 30,530 connections in its designated areas, while Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will manage the much larger share of 85,740.

This year’s revised target stood at just 20,061 connections, making next year’s goal a substantial leap that underlines the government’s determination to broaden gas service access, particularly in regions that have long been underserved.
