Govt allocates Rs1.74b for PM Office in budget 2025-26

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has proposed setting aside Rs 1.754 billion for the operational costs of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the upcoming 2025-26 budget, according to the report.

This figure represents an increase from the revised budget of Rs1.453 billion for the current fiscal year. Of the total amount, over Rs 87 million is allocated specifically for internal operations at the PMO, while Rs896.542 million is intended for public-related expenditures.

“It’s worth mentioning here that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb presented the Rs17.573 trillion Budget for 2025-26 in the National Assembly yesterday.”

He pointed out that this marks the coalition government’s second budget and highlighted key achievements, including a primary surplus of 2.4 percent of GDP. He also noted that inflation has dropped significantly to 4.7 percent due to effective policy measures.

In addition, the government has allocated Rs39.488 billion under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the Higher Education Commission (HEC), aimed at supporting 128 ongoing and 12 new development projects in the education sector for the upcoming fiscal year.

Out of this amount, Rs38.488 billion is directed toward ongoing initiatives, while Rs1 billion is reserved for new projects.

One of the key projects includes Rs500 million for awarding 3,000 Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships to Afghan students, a commitment made under the Prime Minister’s Directive.

Another significant allocation is Rs200 million for the revised construction of an academic block at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) in Islamabad.
