A special ceremony was held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada in Rawalpindi to honour Field Marshal Asim Munir, where he laid a floral wreath and offered prayers in tribute to Pakistan’s fallen heroes.
He dedicated this recognition to the people of Pakistan, the Armed Forces, and particularly to the martyrs and veterans of both military and law enforcement agencies.
COAS Munir stated, “This honour is a tribute to the entire Pakistani nation and the valiant men and women of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, particularly the martyrs who stood like a ‘Wall of Steel’ against Indian unprovoked, cowardly and unlawful aggression against Pakistan.”
Just a day earlier, the federal cabinet approved his promotion to Field Marshal, acknowledging his exceptional leadership during critical national challenges, notably after Marka-e-Haq and Operation Bunyan-ul-Marsoos.
These operations are credited with safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and restoring regional stability, thanks to his decisive leadership and strategic acumen.
This promotion is historic, making him one of the few in Pakistan’s history to receive such a distinction. Defense and political leaders alike have praised it as a well-earned recognition for a leader who stood firm during a time of national urgency.
Field Marshal Asim Munir, who assumed the role of Army Chief in 2022, has a long and accomplished career. He began at Officers Training School, Mangla, where he earned the Sword of Honour, and was later commissioned into the 23rd Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment.
His earlier commands include leading forces in the Northern Areas, and he has also headed Military Intelligence and the ISI. Prior to becoming Army Chief, he served as Corps Commander, Gujranwala, and Quartermaster General at GHQ.
A recipient of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and a Hafiz-e-Quran, he is noted for his integrity, religious devotion, and wide-ranging military expertise.
