Dubai authorities have intensified their crackdown on beggars across the city during the holy month of Ramadan, according to local media reports.
Police teams have been located at various locations, and online observation has been ramped up.
The rise in begging incidents has been causing inconvenience to residents since the start of Ramadan.
Just two days ago, Dubai police arrested nine individuals involved in begging at public places.
Foreign news agencies reported that special police units had been formed to specifically target beggars, leading to multiple arrests in different areas.
Authorities have reminded the public that engaging in begging can result in a three-month jail term and a fine of 5,000 dirhams.
To tackle the problem effectively, the police have urged citizens to report any beggars they encounter.
A dedicated mobile application called “Police Eye” has been activated to make reporting easier, and individuals can also call 901 to inform authorities.
Earlier to the start of Ramadan, Dubai police launched an awareness initiative called “Donate Wisely.”
The purpose of this campaign is to shield the public from false tactics used by professional beggars and ensure that charitable donations reach those who genuinely need assistance.
Officials have warned residents not to fall for fabricated sob stories from beggars often seen near roads, mosques, and other public spaces.
They emphasized that professional beggars exploit people’s emotions and misuse donations.
Dubai police have urged the public to contribute only to registered charitable organizations and to promptly report any distrustful begging activities.
They highlighted that responsible giving not only safeguards the community but also ensures that aid is provided to those who truly deserve it.
