CM Murad launches centralized system to fix Karachi’s civic issues

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has launched a centralized monitoring system to tackle Karachi’s civic issues, aiming for better governance, coordination, and public convenience, especially during the busy Eid shopping season.

During a meeting at CM House on Thursday, Shah stressed the importance of strict supervision over drainage, encroachments, road-cutting, sanitation, security, and traffic management.

The session was attended by Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Commissioner Hassan Naqvi, and other key officials.

Addressing the problems caused by unchecked road-cutting, Shah ruled that only the Karachi Mayor and Commissioner would be authorized to approve future requests.

He instructed the Local Government Department to issue an order preventing KMC and Town officers from making independent road-cutting approvals, ensuring minimal disruption to newly built roads.

To improve issue reporting, Shah announced the launch of a Karachi Issues Portal, where Assistant and Deputy Commissioners will be required to submit updates on drainage, encroachments, and cleanliness.

Additionally, Assistant Commissioners will conduct citywide inspections to identify sanitation problems and illegal parking.

As Karachi gears up for Eid shopping, Shah directed authorities to boost police patrolling and street lighting in commercial hubs.

He also tasked Traffic Police and KMC with enhancing traffic flow, ensuring a smooth shopping experience for citizens.

To enhance public spaces, Shah assigned Mayor Wahab the responsibility of beautifying four key markets and installing seating areas by the fiscal year’s end. “Next year, we will extend this effort to more public spaces,” he stated.

Furthermore, Shah ordered a crackdown on soft violations post-Eid to ensure better accessibility.

He also advised authorities to accelerate the Lyari water pipeline project, instructing them to resolve any difficulties through the Planning & Development Department.
