The Capital Development Authority (CDA) launched a large-scale operation on Monday, sealing several illegal marquees and commercial buildings in different parts of Islamabad.
Acting on the directives of the CDA chairman, this operation is part of a broader campaign to remove unauthorized constructions and encroachments in the federal capital.
Teams from the Directorate General of Building & Housing Control and the Enforcement Directorate carried out the crackdown in Zones IV and V, targeting structures that violated building laws.
The enforcement drive was conducted under the amended Building Control Regulations 2020 (2023) to ensure compliance with city development rules.
The sealed structures included Blessings Marquee on Thanda Pani, Lehtrar Road (found operational), Liansa Marquee on Islamabad Expressway (renovation work halted), Punjab Cash and Carry on Naval Anchorage Access Road (under construction), Wasna Palace (both occupied and under construction), and White House Marquee in River Gardens (found operational).
Before taking action, the CDA had issued 15-day notices followed by 7-day show-cause notices, asking the owners to either regularize their buildings or clear outstanding dues.
However, due to non-compliance, the authority proceeded with sealing and demolition.
A CDA spokesperson reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to ensuring Islamabad’s urban development remains well-planned and regulated.
