Azerbaijan stands with Pakistan as India tensions rise

Amid rapid tensions between Pakistan and India, the Republic of Azerbaijan formally expressed full support for Pakistan. It reaffirmed its solidarity with the country’s government and people.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Azerbaijani government condemned the Indian military’s recent actions and expressed deep concern over the deteriorating regional security situation.

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador, Khazar Farhadov, personally delivered the letter to Pakistan. It conveyed a special message of support from his government. According to an official statement, Azerbaijan extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.

He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the recent hostilities. The government emphasized the need for restraint and urged both parties to seek a peaceful diplomatic resolution.

Ambassador Farhadov assured his country’s commitment to stand with Pakistan. He highlighted the close ties between the two nations and conveyed warm wishes for the Pakistani people.

At the same time, Azerbaijan affirmed its readiness to support Pakistan during this critical period. Tensions flared after a deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on April 22, which claimed the lives of 22 Hindu tourists.

India accused Pakistan of orchestrating the incident, an allegation Islamabad denied, demanding credible evidence. In response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty unilaterally and closed the Wagah Attari land crossing.

The act further strained relations. Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) condemned these actions, warning that any attempt to disrupt water flows would constitute an act of war under international law.

The situation worsened dramatically during the night of May 6 and 7, when Indian forces reportedly launched coordinated missile and drone strikes on six locations across Pakistan. The areas attacked were Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Pakistan’s military spokesperson, the DG ISPR, the strikes resulted in the deaths of at least 31 civilians, including women and children, and injured 71 others. Both nations are busy with heightened rhetoric and military posturing.

Azerbaijan’s gesture stands out as a strong act of diplomatic solidarity. The international community now watches with growing concern as tensions between the two states threaten to spiral into open conflict.
