Another spell of heavy rain expected across Pakistan

According to the Met Office, moist currents are steadily entering the region, and rainfall is expected to continue over the next few days across the country.

Monsoon activity is likely to intensify starting from the evening or night of July 5, while a westerly wave is expected to move into the upper parts of the country by July 6.

Under these weather conditions:

Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan are likely to receive rain, wind, and thunderstorms with scattered heavy to very heavy showers from July 5 to July 10.

Affected areas include Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, and several others across the region, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Peshawar.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, areas such as Diamir, Skardu, Hunza, and Gilgit will experience similar weather from July 6 to July 10.

Punjab and Islamabad are also expected to receive rain-wind/thunderstorms with periods of heavy rainfall between July 5 and 10.

Cities likely to be affected include Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and others. Southern parts like Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rahimyar Khan may see rain from July 6 to 8.

Balochistan and Sindh will also experience rain and thunderstorms. From July 3–4 and again from July 6–8, northeastern and southern Balochistan areas such as Sherani, Kalat, and Lasbella will see showers, some of which may be heavy.

In Sindh, light to moderate rain is expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, and surrounding districts, with isolated heavy downpours in southeastern and lower parts of the province.

Potential Impacts and Safety Advisories:

“Heavy to very heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams” in hilly regions such as Murree, Galliyat, and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and Balochistan from July 5 (night) to July 8.

“Heavy Downpour may cause urban flood in low lying areas,” including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Peshawar between July 6 and 8.

There is also a risk of “landslides/mudslides” causing road closures in vulnerable hilly zones of KP, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

“Heavy falls/windstorm and lightning may damage weak structures” such as kacha houses, electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels during this period.

Farmers are advised to plan fieldwork with the weather in mind, while the public, especially travelers and tourists, should remain cautious and stay updated on any changing weather conditions.
