Lahore Traffic Police have stepped up enforcement against heavy vehicles entering the city during restricted hours. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Abdul Rahim Shirazi has directed traffic officials to take legal action against violators to reduce road accidents and improve traffic safety.
The CTO has instructed officers to carry out strict checks on public service vehicles, commercial transport and heavy vehicles operating on city roads during prohibited hours.
According to Shirazi, heavy vehicles are not allowed to enter Lahore during the daytime. Entry is permitted after 11:00 PM, while vehicles must stop entering the city after 7:00 AM. Transport operators who fail to follow these timings will face legal action, including the registration of cases.
The restrictions cover tractor-trolleys, trailers, trucks and construction machinery. Shirazi said heavy traffic is being allowed into the city in phases to control vehicle movement and ease congestion. Oil tankers, meanwhile, can enter Lahore only during specifically approved hours.

The latest enforcement measures are part of wider efforts to reduce traffic congestion and prevent accidents involving heavy vehicles.
In July 2026, Lahore Traffic Police sought restrictions on heavy waste-management vehicles during peak hours following several fatal accidents. According to the Associated Press of Pakistan, four accidents involving vehicles operated under the Suthra Punjab programme and the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) claimed 10 lives during 2025 and 2026.
Authorities have also called for stricter inspections of commercial vehicles to ensure they have valid driving licences, fitness certificates and working lights. Officials are also focusing on the safe transportation of construction materials to reduce risks on busy roads.
The enforcement drive aims to make Lahore’s roads safer for motorists, motorcyclists and pedestrians while ensuring that freight and essential supplies can still enter the city within the permitted time slots.
Residents and transport operators have been advised to follow the prescribed entry timings and comply with any exemptions or additional instructions issued by traffic authorities.
