Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has directed the expansion of the city’s solar streetlight project, with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) preparing to install solar-powered lights on more major roads.
The initiative is aimed at reducing electricity consumption and improving street lighting for residents. The decision follows positive results from solar streetlights already installed along several key roads in Karachi.
Wahab said the city was moving towards cleaner and alternative energy sources to meet its growing energy needs. Work to convert streetlights along Shahrah-e-Saadi to solar power is already underway, while the KMC will soon expand the project to other important roads.

According to the KMC, the projects were completed at Rs145 million and covered approximately 271,000 square feet across different areas of Gulistan-e-Johar.
