Punjab govt approves new rules for private housing schemes

The Punjab government has approved key changes to the rules governing private housing schemes to improve regulation, enhance transparency and promote affordable housing across the province.

The provincial cabinet has cleared amendments to the Punjab Development Authority Private Housing Schemes Rules 2021, along with revisions to the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) Affordable Private Housing Scheme Rules 2020.

Under the updated rules, the approval, regulation and monitoring of new private housing schemes will follow revised procedures designed to strengthen oversight and improve the overall management of the sector.

Officials said the amendments will make the regulatory framework more efficient while ensuring greater accountability in private housing projects.

The revised policy is also expected to support investment in affordable housing by making it easier to develop low-cost residential schemes across Punjab.

The Punjab Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Department will be responsible for implementing the reforms and ensuring that the updated rules are properly enforced.
