Punjab’s ongoing monsoon rains turned tragic after a three-storey residential building collapsed in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area, leaving at least 10 people dead while rescue teams continued searching for those believed to be trapped under the debris.
The incident took place in Muhammad Din Colony when the roof of the building suddenly gave way, causing the entire structure to collapse. Police said the bodies of 10 victims had been recovered, while six injured people were rescued from the rubble and shifted to hospitals for medical treatment.
Rescue officials said the operation was still in progress as more people could remain trapped beneath the debris. More than 40 Rescue 1122 personnel, along with 10 emergency vehicles, were taking part in the rescue efforts.

According to authorities, three families were living in the building when it collapsed. Initial findings indicate that the roof was built with mud and T-iron girders, which may have weakened after several days of heavy rainfall.
The incident comes as Punjab continues to face the impact of intense monsoon rains. In Lahore, similar roof collapse incidents have already been reported in Shalimar Road, Shadab Colony, and Kahna, raising concerns about the condition of old and poorly built structures during the rainy season.
In a separate incident in Faisalabad’s Taliyanwala area, a roof collapsed after rainwater collected on top of the structure, killing two young brothers. Rescue officials identified the victims as six-month-old Rizwan and six-year-old Muhammad Subhan. Their father, Idrees, mother, Rizwana, and another son, six-year-old Muhammad Ahmed, were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
The two incidents have claimed at least 12 lives, prompting renewed concerns over building safety and the need for stronger inspections and preventive measures to avoid further tragedies.
