PMD predicts light drizzle as humidity drops in Karachi

Residents of Karachi are likely to experience slightly lower humidity today compared to yesterday, while drizzle or scattered showers may affect Sindh’s coastal areas during late night and early morning hours, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office said weather conditions across Sindh, Balochistan and southern Punjab remain extremely hot, with temperatures in several areas expected to cross 40 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours.

Meteorologists warned that hot and humid weather continues to grip most parts of southern Pakistan as a regional heatwave affects parts of South Asia this month.

According to the PMD forecast, rain accompanied by gusty winds and isolated hailstorms is expected later today or tonight in different regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, southern Punjab, northern Balochistan, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Karachi is expected to remain partly cloudy and humid, though sea breezes may bring temporary relief from the heat.

Similar forecasts of drizzle and humid weather have recently been issued for the city as seasonal conditions continue to change.

Weather experts say coastal cities such as Karachi usually experience high humidity levels in May because of their closeness to the Arabian Sea, while inland areas of Sindh and Punjab continue to face intense heat.
