Light to moderate rain hits Karachi, more showers expected

A westerly weather system has brought light to moderate rainfall to Karachi, and the Meteorological Department has predicted more showers in the city.

Since last night, light rain and drizzle have been observed in several areas, including Quaidabad, Malir, Safoora Chowrangi, Scheme 33, Nazimabad, Saddar, Metroville, SITE, Habib Bank Chowrangi and nearby localities.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain is likely to continue in different parts of the city over the next few hours. Most areas can expect light to moderate rainfall, while there is also a chance of hailstorms in a few isolated spots.

Deputy Mayor Salman Murad said that in view of the expected rainfall, which may continue until April 4, holidays for local government staff have been canceled and all departments have been put on high alert.

Dewatering pumps have been installed in low-lying areas, and municipal teams have been deployed on major roads and key locations to deal with any emergency situation.

It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan Meteorological Department has already issued a countrywide weather alert, warning of strong winds, heavy rain, and possible hail in many parts of the province until April 4.

Citizens have been advised to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel and contact emergency services if required.
