Private schools demand end to Saturday holiday in new academic year

Private schools have called for the removal of Saturday holidays in the next academic year, a report said.

Qazi Naeem Anjum, head of Pak Aiwan-e-Taleem for Private Schools, suggested that summer vacations should be limited to two months, while winter holidays should be shortened to only ten days in January. He stressed that the academic year should include at least 180 teaching days.

According to Anjum, unexpected closures during the last academic session allowed schools to carry out academic activities for only 127 days. He said the limited teaching time created serious challenges in completing the required syllabus.

He further proposed that schools should be permitted to arrange summer camps during the vacation period so that remaining coursework can be covered.

Officials from the School Education Department told representatives of private institutions that their concerns and suggestions would be reviewed after detailed discussions.
