A total of 4,274 people were arrested during a crackdown against professional beggars in the federal capital during 2025 and the first month of 2026.
The information was shared in a written reply submitted to the Senate by Mohsin Naqvi, the Interior Minister.
According to the Ministry of Interior, 345 FIRs were registered during operations against professional beggars, while 775 daily diary reports were also recorded. The report stated that the arrested individuals included men, women, minors and transgender persons.
The ministry said the anti-begging drive was conducted in different areas of the federal capital. The interior minister told the House that, after completing legal formalities, the detained people were moved to judicial lockups and shelter homes.
The campaign aims to break up organized networks involved in professional begging and to protect citizens from panhandling. The ministry added that operations against professional beggars will continue under a coordinated strategy involving relevant departments.
