Karachi board announces exam dates for classes 9 and 10

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) has released the schedule for the Class 9 and Class 10 annual examinations for 2026.

According to the official announcement, the exams will start on April 7, 2026, and continue until April 24, 2026. Students across Karachi who are preparing for their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams have been advised to organize their studies in line with the announced timetable.

The board has also introduced revised passing criteria for SSC exams. The minimum passing marks for Class IX students have been increased from 33 percent to 40 percent. This change will take effect from the annual examinations beginning April 7, 2026. For Class X students, the new requirement will take effect starting with the 2027 annual exams.

Under the updated system, students must secure at least 40 percent marks in both theory and practical papers to pass. For instance, in a 100-mark theory paper, the passing score has been raised from 33 to 40.

In a 75-mark paper, students will now need 30 marks to pass, while a 60-mark paper will require 24 marks. For practical exams worth 15 marks, at least 6 marks are required to clear the paper.

The revised criteria aim to raise academic standards by encouraging students to perform better and develop a stronger understanding of their subjects. The changes also bring the board’s evaluation system in line with updated grading policies introduced by education authorities.
