PDMA issues Basant celebrations safety advisory

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has predicted dry and partly cloudy weather in Lahore from February 6 to 8, creating suitable conditions for Basant celebrations, while emphasizing the importance of strict safety precautions.

According to PDMA Punjab, the weather in Lahore and surrounding areas is expected to remain stable and pleasant during the three-day period, allowing people to take part in outdoor festival activities. Daytime temperatures are likely to stay between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius, offering comfortable conditions for residents.

However, the authority has cautioned that northern districts of the province may receive rain, while mountainous regions could see snowfall. These conditions may lead to colder weather in upper areas, and residents and travelers have been advised to stay alert.

PDMA Punjab has also called on the public to follow safety guidelines during Basant, especially while flying kites. Citizens have been urged to keep a safe distance from power lines and remain cautious while on rooftops to prevent accidents.

The authority reiterated that the use of metal wires, chemical-coated strings, and other banned kite-flying materials is strictly prohibited, warning that such items can pose serious risks to public safety.

Motorcyclists have been particularly advised to wear helmets and protective neck gear during Basant. PDMA said these measures are aimed at reducing the risk of injuries amid increased traffic and kite-flying activity across the city.
