NDMA issues fog alert, multiple motorways shut across Punjab

Dense fog has blanketed several districts of Punjab, sharply reducing visibility and prompting the NDMA to issue a three-day alert,  as reported on Saturday.

Due to hazardous conditions, multiple motorway sections have been closed to traffic. A Motorways spokesperson said the M 2 between Lahore and Islamabad and the M 3 from Lahore to Multan were shut because of fog.

The M 4 stretch linking Faisalabad and Multan and the M 5 from Multan to Zahir Pir have also been closed, while traffic on the Lahore to Sialkot M 11 has been suspended as well.

The NDMA warned that thick fog is likely to persist across South and Central Punjab over the next three days. Areas expected to be affected include Lahore, Jhang, Multan, Khanewal, Mian Channu, Sahiwal, Okara, Pakpattan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Lodhran, and Vehari.

Foggy conditions are also expected around Sukkur in upper Sindh, while Islamabad may see reduced visibility during the night and early morning hours.

The Motorways Police have urged motorists to use fog lights and drive with caution, warning that poor visibility could lead to accidents.
