The Sindh government’s Thar Desert Train Safari is set to begin on Saturday, with the provincial tourism department confirming that all preparations have been completed.
The special train will travel through Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot before reaching Zero Point, where passengers will take part in cultural activities.
A musical evening is planned in Chhor, along with an opportunity to enjoy traditional local food
On the second day, the journey will resume from Pichi Ji Verry and head back to Karachi. Sindh Tourism Minister Zulfiqar Ali Shah described the safari as a valuable offering for the public, saying it is designed to highlight Sindh’s tourism potential. He added that plans include extending the route to Mohenjo Daro and Sukkur.
According to the Sindh Tourism Development Corporation, ticket prices will start from Rs30,000 per adult. Railway officials said travelers will also experience camping, bonfires, regional music, and local dishes during the trip.
Earlier in 2024, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto had announced plans to introduce a train service linking Tharparkar with Karachi.
Speaking at a gathering in Chachro Tehsil, he said the project would improve connectivity for the region and help facilitate coal transportation to Karachi.
