For the first time, students at private universities will be included in the Punjab Laptop Scheme, the provincial government has announced.
According to the Higher Education Department, the first phase will see 10,000 laptops distributed to students enrolled in private universities.
Officials said work on the scheme is already underway, aiming to bridge the gap between students of public and private higher-education institutions.
Authorities confirmed that the eligibility criteria for the Punjab Laptop Scheme will remain the same. “All applicants will be assessed under the same merit rules,” they said.
Under these rules, students must be enrolled in a private university in Punjab and have a strong academic record, with a minimum of 70% marks or an equivalent CGPA in their last examination. Students who have already received a laptop in earlier phases will not be eligible.
The scheme also continues to maintain reserved quotas for female students, students with disabilities, and those from low-income families. Officials say these measures are intended to ensure fair distribution and provide digital access to those who need it most.
