Sindh Police orders crackdown on vehicles without number plates, licences

KARACHI: Sindh police have been told to take tough action against anyone driving vehicles without number plates or a valid licence across the province, as reported on Friday.

Karachi traffic police had launched an e-challan system in October, which records traffic violations through CCTV cameras and issues fines automatically.

IG Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, issued this fresh directive, the second in just over a month, after noticing that many vehicles on the roads still don’t have proper registration or licensed drivers.

The order calls for identifying such vehicles and drivers and taking action under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance.

Police have been instructed to carry out a strict crackdown, which includes seizing vehicles, filing cases, and making arrests when needed. Daily progress reports must be emailed to the IG Operations Room.

The directive has been sent to all DIGs, SSPs, and other senior officers across Sindh. A similar order was earlier issued on October 31, 2025.

There had been reports that cars without number plates were moving freely on Karachi roads without any action. Social media users had also shared videos showing such vehicles. The IG took notice of these reports while e-challans continue under the new system.
