Punjab extends Section 144 for another week

The Punjab Home Department has extended the enforcement of Section 144 for another seven days, maintaining the province-wide ban on protests, rallies, gatherings, sit-ins, and similar activities, as per the report on Monday.

Under this order, no more than four people are allowed to gather in public. The Home Department has also continued the complete ban on displaying weapons, and the use of loudspeakers remains restricted.

Officials have also prohibited the publication and distribution of any material that promotes hatred, creates sectarian tension, or provokes the public.

According to the department, the extension aims to maintain law and order and safeguard lives and property, as concerns have been raised that large gatherings could be exploited for anti-state activities.

The government warned that terrorists may see crowded places as easy targets, making preventive steps essential.

These restrictions do not apply to wedding events, funeral prayers, or burials. Government employees on duty, law enforcement personnel, and courts are also exempt. Loudspeakers may only be used for the Azaan and Friday sermons.

A formal notification has been issued, extending Section 144 across Punjab until Saturday, November 22, with instructions to launch widespread public awareness campaigns about the rules.
