Once again, Lahore has topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities today, as thick smog continues to blanket the city and nearby areas.
Data from IQAir, a global air quality monitoring platform, showed that Lahore recorded a US Air Quality Index (AQI) of 349 at 9:43am, which falls under the “hazardous” category.
The PM2.5 concentration reached 249.5 µg/m³, almost 50 times higher than the World Health Organisation’s annual air quality guideline.
The toxic layer has reduced visibility and caused health problems for many residents, including throat irritation, breathing issues, and itchy eyes.
Health experts have urged people to stay indoors as much as possible and wear masks when stepping outside.
