Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has reported a major oil and gas discovery at its Dhok Sultan-03 well in District Attock, Punjab.
This is the second find in the Dhok Sultan Block (3371-15), where PPL holds a 75% working interest, with Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) owning the remaining 25%.
Drilling at Dhok Sultan-03 began on January 18, 2025, reaching a depth of 5,815 meters to test the hydrocarbon potential of the Patala and Lockhart formations.
Tests showed encouraging results, with the well producing 1,469 barrels of oil per day and 2.56 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas at a flowing pressure of 1,147 psig on a 32/64″ choke.
On a wider 48/64″ choke, production increased to 2,113 barrels of oil per day and 4.13 MMscfd of gas at 813 psig.
PPL stated that this discovery highlights the vast untapped potential of the Potwar-Kohat sub-basin, which can be unlocked through modern exploration and drilling technologies.
The new reserves are expected to strengthen local hydrocarbon supplies, cut reliance on energy imports, and save valuable foreign exchange.
The find marks a significant boost to Pakistan’s domestic energy production.
