Met office issues rain alert across Pakistan from Friday

ISLAMABAD: The Met Office has predicted widespread rainfall across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan starting from August 29 (Friday).

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to reach the northern parts of the country from tomorrow, while a westerly wave is likely to approach the upper and central regions from August 30 (Saturday).

The forecast states that Kashmir will see widespread rain with scattered heavy and at times very heavy showers from August 29 to September 2, while Gilgit-Baltistan will experience similar conditions between August 30 and September 1.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, widespread rain with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is predicted from August 29 to September 1.

Punjab and Islamabad are also expected to receive widespread downpours with scattered heavy and very heavy falls between August 29 and September 2, with occasional gaps.

Southern Punjab districts, including D.G. Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rajanpur, and Rahimyar Khan, are likely to receive rainfall with isolated heavy showers from the night of August 29 to September 2.

Sindh’s Mithi, Tharparkar, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, and Umerkot are forecast to receive rain on August 30 and 31.

In Balochistan, rain is expected in Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Zhob, Kalat, and Khuzdar between August 30 and September 1, the Met Office added.
