The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Karachi next week, with a monsoon system expected to enter Sindh from India’s Gujarat on the night of August 17.
The weather outlook suggests several parts of Sindh will receive rain between August 18 and 23, with Karachi likely to see one or two spells during this time.
Separately, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of heavy monsoon rains in various cities, including Lahore, during Independence Day celebrations.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that the seventh phase of the monsoon has started and will continue until August 21.
He cautioned that this spell may be stronger than earlier ones, bringing significant rainfall to upper river catchment areas as well as the plains of Punjab.
He also mentioned that showers are likely during upcoming religious occasions, including the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), with most districts of Punjab expected to be impacted.
