Punjab govt to provide free apartments to workers

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired the 28th meeting of the provincial cabinet, where a comprehensive 130-point agenda was discussed and approved.

A major highlight of the session was the sanctioning of 1,220 residential flats for industrial workers in Labour Complexes located in Sundar, Kasur, and Taxila.

These housing units will be allotted through a transparent balloting system to ensure fairness and equal opportunity. The chief minister firmly rejected any proposal to recover construction costs from the workers, emphasizing that laborers deserve support, not a financial burden.

She also directed the concerned departments to immediately begin the construction of an additional 3,000 flats to accommodate the growing housing needs of industrial workers across the province.

In a move to improve labor welfare, the cabinet approved setting the minimum wage at Rs40,000 for skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers across 102 employment categories, reinforcing the government’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights and improving their standard of living.

Furthermore, in recognition of the bravery and dedication shown by Rescue 1122 teams during recent flood emergencies, Maryam Nawaz announced a cash reward of Rs50,000 for each official who took part in the operations.

She lauded their timely and effective relief efforts, describing them as a testament to the department’s professionalism and dedication to public service.

These decisions reflect the Punjab government’s focus on pro-worker policies, social protection, and effective emergency response mechanisms.
