Sindh Ombudsman removes K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi over workplace harassment

The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh ordered to remove K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi after finding him guilty of harassing a female employee and imposed fine of Rs2.5 million on him over harassment charges.

According to details, Ms. Mahreen Aziz Khan, former Chief Marketing and Communication Officer at K-Electric, filed a formal complaint under Section 8 of the protection against harassment of women at the Workplace Act, 2010.

She alleged that Moonis Abdullah Alvi (CEO), Muhammad Rizwan Dalia (Chief People Officer), Col (R) Wahid Asghar (Chief of Security), and Khalid Rafi (Board Member and Chairman HR Committee) were involved in harassing and threatening her.

After complete investigation, the Provincial Ombudsman  Sindh Justice (r) Shahnawaz Tariq concluded that the allegations were substantiated and directed that K-Electric CEO Moonis Alvi be removed from office, under Sections 2(h) and 4(4)(ii)(c) of the Act.

Additionally, he was fined Rs2.5 million and it also stated that if the fine is not paid within a month, the amount will be recovered by seizing bank accounts or property.

Moreover, Moonis Alvi’s national identity card and passport may also be blocked if he fails to comply.
