Trial route announced for Pakistan’s first electric tram service

Lahore is set to introduce electric trams to its public transport system following the launch of electric buses, according to an Orange Line spokesperson.

The first electric tram, imported from China, has arrived in the city to encourage cleaner and more environmentally friendly travel.

Each tram, capable of covering 25 to 27 kilometers after just ten minutes of charging, will feature three compartments and can accommodate up to 250 passengers.”

The first trams are being assembled at the Ali Town Depot,” the spokesperson shared.

A trial run is being planned for the route between Thokar Niaz Baig and Harbanspura. “At first, the tram service will be free of cost,” the spokesperson added. “If the trial is successful, ticket prices will be introduced for regular use.”
