Heatwave grips Islamabad as feels-like temp reaches 50°C

ISLAMABAD: The heat index in Islamabad soared to an intense 50°C on Friday afternoon, despite the actual air temperature holding steady at 39°C, creating severe discomfort for residents.

Just an hour earlier, the “feels like” temperature had already hit 49°C, signaling how quickly the heat stress intensified across the capital.

The heat index, which combines air temperature with humidity to measure how hot it actually feels, reached levels that can seriously affect health and well-being, especially for those outdoors.

In a bit of welcome news, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain in various parts of the country, including Islamabad, later in the day. The expected rainfall is likely to bring short-term relief from the stifling weather.

Officials are urging citizens to take precautions, avoid being outside during the hottest hours, drink plenty of water, and steer clear of direct sunlight to stay safe in these extreme conditions.
