Traffic penalties to increase massively across the province

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has moved to revise traffic penalties as part of its 2025–26 budget plan.

As outlined in the finance bill, a new category of fines is being introduced specifically for three-wheeled vehicles like rickshaws and loader rickshaws.

The suggested fines will now range up to Rs10,000, a sharp increase from the current Rs200. A fine of Rs5,000 will be imposed for violating route permits, and repeat offenders could face double that amount.

The bill also includes strict penalties for those found using fake driving licenses, with fines ranging between Rs5,000 and Rs10,000.

Additional measures target underage driving: anyone under 18 found riding a motorcycle may be fined Rs3,000, while underage individuals caught driving vehicles could be fined Rs5,000.

These proposed changes will only take effect once a formal notification is issued. Until then, existing traffic fine rates will remain unchanged.
