Pakistan stands with Iran, urges UN action against Israeli aggression

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday firmly condemned Israel’s military strikes on Iran, calling them unwarranted, illegitimate, and a clear violation of international norms.

“These Israeli military strikes violate the sovereignty and regional integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran and clearly violate the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law. Iran has the right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter,” said the Foreign Office in a statement.

Pakistan expressed resolute support for Iran, describing the attacks as dangerous provocations with the potential to destabilize the region and the wider world.

“The international community and the United Nations bear responsibility to support international law, stop this aggression immediately and hold the aggressor accountable for its actions,” the statement continued.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also condemned the Israeli strikes, describing them as an outrageous breach of Iran’s sovereignty.

“This disgusting action has shaken foundations of international law as well as conscience of humanity; and gravely damages regional stability & int’l security. Pakistan stands in solidarity with the Government & the people of Iran,” he posted on X.

This strong reaction came after Israel carried out what is being seen as one of the most severe escalations to date, killing several high-ranking Iranian military and nuclear figures.

The New York Times reported that Israel targeted at least six military sites around Tehran, including the high-security Parchin facility.

Among those reportedly killed in the attacks were Major General Mohammad Baqeri, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, and Major General Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as well as other senior officials.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who remained unharmed, condemned the assault as Israel having “unleashed its wicked and bloody” hand, and vowed a forceful retaliation.
