KMC imposes new taxes on wedding halls across Karachi

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to impose taxes on wedding halls under various categories such as beautification, live cooking, barbecues, and parking.

This new system, introduced after a request from the Wedding Halls Association, will issue challans to venues based on guest capacity.

It will be implemented in accordance with the Sindh Local Government Act 2013 and its updated taxation rules. The assessment will also factor in facilities like staff strength, banquet halls, clubs, and ballrooms.

In Districts West, Central, and East, the tax rates are as follows:

  • Rs30,000 for events with over 500 guests
  • Rs20,000 for up to 500 guests
  • Rs10,000 for 300 guests
  • Rs5,000 for 150 guests

Wedding halls in Korangi and Malir will pay slightly reduced amounts:

  • Rs25,000 for over 500 guests
  • Rs15,000 for up to 500 guests
  • Rs7,500 for 300 guests
  • Rs5,000 for 150 guests

This initiative is designed to bring more order and accountability to the wedding industry while ensuring it adheres to local government regulations.
