In a move aimed at supporting students and expanding access to education, the Punjab government is introducing a “Student Card” for learners enrolled in both public and private institutions throughout the province.
This initiative, led by the Punjab Education Department, is designed to deliver multiple benefits.
A key feature is free public transport for all students holding the card, which is expected to greatly ease daily travel, particularly for those in remote or financially struggling areas.
Besides travel perks, the Student Card will serve as a digital academic ID, storing each student’s educational history, extracurricular records, and other personal achievements.
According to officials, this centralized academic profile will be a valuable tool for both academic planning and future career development.
The card will also streamline access to national and international scholarship opportunities.
The Education Department is working on collaborations with companies offering services like digital learning and career guidance to enhance the card’s usefulness.
Information collected through the Student Cards will contribute to a province-wide education database, which authorities believe will help improve policy decisions and resource allocation.
While an official launch date has not yet been confirmed, the project is reportedly in active development.
