NDMA issues extreme weather alert for KP over next 48 hours

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, windstorms, thunderstorms, and occasional hail, in several regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Areas expected to be affected from the evening of April 18 to April 19, 2025, include Malakand, Hazara, Bannu, Charsadda, Karak, Khyber, Kohat, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Mardan, Nowshera, Orakzai, Peshawar, Swabi, Waziristan, and nearby locations.

The intense weather could disrupt roads, damage infrastructure, and impact farming activities. In higher altitudes, rain and snowfall may lead to landslides or avalanches.

The NDMA highlighted that major roads, particularly in hilly areas, might become blocked due to landslides or snow buildup, while flash floods are also a risk from heavy downpours.

“Tourists are advised to regularly monitor weather forecasts for updates on rain/thunderstorms.” The NDMA further recommended avoiding non-essential travel during heavy rain spells and staying alert in areas prone to landslides or avalanches.

“Stay vigilant in landslide and avalanche-prone regions and adhere to safety advisories from local authorities.”

Citizens are encouraged to remain cautious and follow official guidance as authorities stay on standby for any emergencies.
