Sharjeel Memon emphasized that this decision aims to facilitate commuters during Ramadan, recognizing the reliance of Karachi residents on public transport.

“We will ensure that people can travel safely after shopping and other activities during Ramadan nights,” he assured.

Moreover, the Sindh Government and Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) announced a fare increase for the Peoples Bus Service that will be effective from February 1, 2025.

According to the revised fare structure, passengers traveling up to 15 kilometers will be charged Rs80 per ride, while those covering a distance beyond 15 kilometers will pay Rs120 per ride.

The Peoples Bus Service, an essential public transport system in Karachi, operates red, white (electric), and pink (ladies-only) buses across eight routes, linking key residential areas with industrial and business hubs.

The air-conditioned red buses have seating for around 40 passengers, with additional space for 40 standing commuters and dedicated sections for women.

The fare adjustment is intended to maintain the sustainability of the service while ensuring reliable public transport in the city.
