Weather alert: Pakistan to experience heavy rainfall from March 9

As the holy month of Ramazan continues, Pakistanis can expect cooler weather in the coming days, as a new weather system is set to bring rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall starting March 9, 2025.

In its latest advisory, the Met Office predicted that a westerly wave will bring rainy weather in the northern and hilly regions.

The system is expected to strengthen next week, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Mianwali.

This shift in weather will provide much-needed relief, especially during dawn and dusk, when temperatures usually rise during fasting hours.

Pakistan Weather Update

The new weather system will bring showers and snowfall to several areas, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Battagram, Buner, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Urban areas such as Islamabad and Lahore are also expected to experience rainfall between March 12-16, offering a pleasant break from the usual pre-Ramazan heat.

The cooler temperatures will help ease the intensity of heat during peak hours of fasting, making it more manageable for those observing fasts.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also cautioned about potential landslides in hilly regions and advised travelers to be cautious, particularly between March 13 and 16.

Authorities have urged farmers to plan their agricultural activities according to the forecast and advised all relevant parties to stay alert as the weather system progresses.
