Hira Mani talked about the challenges of being compared to a famous movie character. The actress revealed a personal story about how people often saw her as Kareena Kapoor’s character, Geet, from the Bollywood film Jab We Met.
During an interview with an Indian journalist, Hira was questioned about a classic romantic movie in which she would like to act. Instead of answering, she asked the journalist what he thought.
He replied, “I think you should have been in Jab We Met.” Hira laughed and agreed, saying, “Everyone thinks that! People often say I am just like Geet from Jab We Met.” She recollected that even her family noticed the uncanny likeness when the movie was seen.
“My aunt called me and said, ‘Hira, Geet is your character! You should watch Jab We Met.” Hira also reckons that Geet’s personality is very much akin to her own. She jokingly added, “Maybe Imtiaz Ali met me in the past and decided to make this film.”
However, Hira also explained the downside of this differentiation. “Many people started accusing me of copying Geet just because we have similar personalities,” she said. Some critics even believed that she intentionally copied Kareena Kapoor’s attire.
To resolve all doubts, Hira insisted that she did not copy Kareena Kapoor. However, she admitted to mimicking the Bollywood actress sometimes.
During the interview, she repeated some of Geet’s famous dialogues from Jab We Met to prove it.
Hira’s cheerful and energetic nature made people compare her to Geet. She fully welcomed the similarity but also wants to be acknowledged for her own personality.
While she enjoys being associated with such an iconic character, she also wants people to see her as an individual with her own style and charm.
