Meta has introduced a new video editing app, “Edits,” which aims to compete with CapCut. This development follows the removal of ByteDance’s CapCut from the Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store due to the ban on TikTok in the United States.
Although TikTok services have been restored in the US after being down for 14 hours, the future of ByteDance’s video editing platform remains unstable.
In a post on Threads, Instagram head Adam Mosseri revealed that “Edits” will be launched next month, initially for iOS users and then for an Android version planned for later in the year.
“Today we’re announcing a new app called “Edits,” for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone. There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators,” Mosseri mentioned.
He further stated that the company is collaborating with video creators to gather their input and enhance the app’s overall experience.
How does “Edits” work?
According to Meta, the app will offer various creative tools, including a dedicated section for finding inspiration, an area for organizing ideas, and an advanced camera for high-quality recording.
Users will also have the option to share draft versions of their projects with friends and collaborators.
In addition, the app will feature performance analytics, enabling creators to monitor their video’s reach and engagement on Instagram after posting.
As of now, “Edits” is available for preorder on the App Store.
