PTA blocks 5,000+ mobile numbers for fraud

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blocked about 5,000 mobile numbers those of which were used in fraud dealing with the public.

The higher ups, in a statement, noted that 5,294 mobile numbers were blocked in a year after they were found to be engaging in illegal activities. It further added to the crime rates already prevailing in the city and so serious action is initiated to get rid of all these deceitful acts.

PTA also added that it had blocked 4,507 IMEIs and 113 national identity cards of the citizens in the last couple of l financial years for raiding people.

A day before, PTA launched the Annual Report letting us know that the telecom funds reached a record breaking Rs955 billion in Financial Year 2023-24.

It was recorded that the total number of telecom subscribers have reached to 196 million, adding to the broadband subscribers which has grown  to 142.3 million, and mobile subscribers to 193.4 million.

Fixed line subscribers elevated to about 2.6 million where as mobile broadband subscribers reached 138.7 million and Fixed broadband subscribers to 3.6 million.

The PTA gained an outstanding progress across the nation. Expansion of telecom coverage, improving accessibility and connectivity for millions.

Cellular mobile services are now 91% of Pakistan’s population, with 3G/4G signals stretching over 81%.
