A major mango theft in Multan’s Nawabpur area has caused concern after around 150 maunds of mangoes were stolen overnight in a well-organized operation between June 27 and 28, targeting four orchards.
Police estimate the stolen fruit’s worth at over Rs900,000. Locals managed to catch a suspect, Aqib Kalro, and handed him over to the authorities.
Officers from the DHA Police Station later arrived and recovered a large quantity of mangoes.
However, controversy followed when the FIR recorded only 25 maunds of stolen fruit, leaving out 125 maunds claimed by three other orchard owners.
This omission has sparked anger, with residents accusing the SHO of pressuring victims into settling the issue privately rather than pursuing proper legal action.
The complainants have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and senior police officials to step in and ensure justice, claiming they are also being threatened by the accused and are in need of protection.
The incident has brought attention to the rising issue of agricultural theft and the need for greater transparency and accountability in how such cases are handled.
