The Sindh government has announced a public holiday across the province on April 4 to observe the death anniversary of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Bhutto, the founder of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was executed in 1979. The holiday will mark the 47th death anniversary of “Quaid-e-Awam” Bhutto.
According to the notification, all government offices along with autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the provincial administration, will remain closed on Saturday. Essential services will continue to operate as usual.
Bhutto, the only son of Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto, was born on January 5, 1928. He studied at prestigious institutions, including the University of California, Berkeley, and Oxford University. He began his political career as the youngest minister in Ayub Khan’s cabinet and later founded the Pakistan Peoples Party on November 30, 1967.

His notable contributions to Pakistan include drafting the 1973 Constitution, which established a parliamentary, democratic, and federal system of governance. Bhutto’s vision also led to the start of Pakistan’s nuclear programme, a major step in strengthening the country’s sovereignty and security.
