Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the province will soon receive its first fleet of electric buses, aiming to improve public transport in districts that previously lacked such services.
In a message shared on her official X account, she shared that 1,100 electric buses are being built in China, with the first 240 set to arrive in Punjab by August 22.
She stated that the new air-conditioned buses will operate in smaller districts where no formal public transport existed before.
“The fare will be Rs20 only,” Maryam Nawaz said, underlining the government’s commitment to affordable travel for everyone.

To ensure safety and accessibility, each bus will come equipped with CCTV cameras and wheelchair ramps, making it easier for people with disabilities to use the service.
This new electric bus project is expected to not only ease daily travel for many people but also help cut down on pollution throughout the province.
